L'Anse - Journeyman Lineman

Position Title: Journeyman Lineman
Department: Operations
FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Job Purpose:

The Journeyman Lineman will perform the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground high voltage power lines. This position will require pole climbing, hot sticking, pole setting and changing of pole equipment. Lineman will also be responsible to string and sag wire; handle oil-filled equipment; pull, lay, and terminate underground cable; install pad-mounted equipment; work on poles, in bucket trucks, in heights and close proximity to high voltages, in trenches, and operate and work around heavy equipment. This position works with other departments and assists other employees as directed within the scope of their qualifications.

Essential Functions:

1.Assists the Crew Leader or Supervisor in detailed job planning and work toward the efficient completion of the projects.
2.Frames and sets poles, inspects trenches lay terminate and splice primary and secondary underground cable.
3.Installs and maintains all types of pad-mounted, underground, and vault-mounted equipment.
4.Observes and assists other Linemen, and workers in the area.
5.Patrols lines and prepares proper records of patrol and findings.
6.Sectionalizes and switches both overhead and underground lines according to proper operational procedures.
7.Performs trouble shooting and all types of maintenance on both overhead and underground systems.
8.Performs duties following principles, practices, and equipment and construction methods established by the Cooperative.
9.Ability to fulfill the responsibilities of a Crew Leader for short periods without full promotion.
10.Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.A high school degree or equivalent with the completion of a formal Journeyman Apprenticeship Program for the trade of Journeyman Lineman.
2.Strong knowledge of transformer impedance, voltage ratios and polarities.
3.Current and valid CDL License with Medical certification
4.Certifications in First Aid, and CPR available upon hire.
5.Ability to work with minimal supervision and work irregular and overtime hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Previous Electrical Cooperative experience
2.Knowledge of RUS Specs

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job successfully. This position will be in close proximity to high voltages, in trenches, vaults, and around heavy equipment. This role routinely uses standard electrical equipment and tools, such as computers, two-way radio, cellphones and other handheld devices. This position includes exposure to environmental conditions (hot, cold, and inclement weather), electrical meters, fumes or airborne particles, running equipment, and loud noises. This position requires standing or walking for long periods while performing underground work, pole maintenance or work in aerial basket and inspection of lines. This job will stoop, kneel and crawl while performing underground work. Lifting is required, must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 75 pounds and push and pull in excess of 100 pounds of exertional force.
